Cataloging Resources

If/when the number of materials in your libraries grows to a size that can no longer be effectively managed as a lending library, Catholic Charities can investigate cataloging the collection (putting it into an online, searchable database). Below are some free and inexpensive options, for small libraries such as these.

Software (cataloging) options:

Partnerships/Resources:

  • Local Public Library (Multnomah County Library): https://multcolib.org/

    • Check with the local public library to see if they could help catalog/offer access through their online catalog system.

    • Also check with the Library Foundation and Friends of the Library. Perhaps they could offer some support (either financial or volunteers).

  • Local School Districts

    • Check with the local school districts' libraries to see if they could help catalog/offer access through their online catalog system.

    • Do they have library volunteers that could help in your facilities?

  • SJSU (or other MLIS program): Work with SJSU (other MLIS or undergraduate program) to find an intern/volunteer who could handle the initial database setup and cataloging.
