We began our 2nd novel of the year this week, The Secret of the Andes!  It's been quite a departure from what we have been reading up to this point, there is a lot of unfamiliar language with it taking place in Peru and the 1950's, but everyone is doing a great job pronouncing all the new words!

This week in 7th Grade Literature, we began our second novel, The Girl Who Owned a City! Students seem genuinely interested in the story, and it has been exciting to see several students already reading ahead or choosing to read independently!

For the first time, I am allowing students who demonstrate readiness to work through the novel at their own pace. This is a new approach for our classroom, so there may be some trial and error as we figure out what works best while ensuring students remain engaged and demonstrate understanding.

This week in Literature, we’ll be getting into the Halloween spirit as we read a play adaptation of The Legend of Sleepy Hollow! Students will explore the story’s memorable characters, spooky setting, and use of figurative language. We’ll discuss how these literary elements work together to create suspense, establish mood, and bring this classic tale to life. It’s the perfect way to combine a little Halloween fun with meaningful literary analysis!
