Subjects/Grading Policy
All Subjects: Daily assignments account for 40%, while Tests/Projects/Reports make up 60%.
Grading Scale
A = 92-100%
B = 82-91%
C = 72-81%
D = 62-71%
E = 61% or below
Assignments
All work must be neat and legible; if it's not, it may be returned for revision. If assignments are not completed properly, they must be corrected and resubmitted. Writing in complete sentences is essential; sentences should start with a capital letter and conclude with appropriate punctuation.
Assignments will be communicated both orally and written in the planner. Students are responsible for copying their assignments daily. These may also be posted on Google Classroom. For larger assignments (projects/reports), students will receive a handout detailing requirements and grading rubrics.
Late Work / Test Correct and Return
Assignments must be turned in on time. For each day an assignment is late, a penalty of 1 point will be deducted, with a maximum deduction applicable for one week. If an assignment is submitted more than a week late, the grade will be lowered by a full letter grade. After two weeks, a score of 50% will be assigned, or a 0 if the assignment is not submitted. Note that this policy does not apply to work submitted due to absences.
In all subjects with exception to math, students who earn a score between 72% and 81% on tests may correct their work and resubmit it for a chance to achieve up to 81% credit. For those who score below 71%, corrections can be made and submitted for credit, capped at a maximum of 72%.
In math, students are allowed to correct their test errors only if they have fewer than a designated number of missing assignments. For additional details, please contact Mrs. Salzano via email for more information.
Report Cards and Honor Roll
Report cards are available on Facts Family Portal at the end of each quarter. At the end of the school year, a final report card will be mailed home. To obtain quarterly Honor Roll recognition in grades 4-8, a student must have all academic grades of all A or A/B in core academic classes (English, Math, History, Science, Literature, Religion). In addition, students are scored on (Virtues) effort and conduct grades of 1 or 2 in all areas on the report card.
Facts
Facts is updated regularly, typically within a week of assignment submission. It is the student's responsibility to inquire about and submit any missing work.
Snacks/Water Bottles
St. John's is a NUT-FREE school. Please ensure that snacks are healthy and appropriately portioned. Students should bring a water bottle labeled with their name, as only water is permitted unless otherwise specified.
Absent Work
Students are responsible for gathering their missed work directly from their teachers, as each has a different policy for providing absent work. Tests must be made up upon the student’s return to school.
Cell Phone Policy
Cell phones must be turned off and stored in lockers during school hours. For communication, please contact the office. If a student is found with their phone, it will be held by the teacher until the end of the day for the first offense. For subsequent offenses, it will be kept in the office until a parent can retrieve it.
Classroom Responsibility Plan
Students are expected to show respect to peers and staff.
Adherence to school rules is mandatory.
