A discussion about International Organization for Standardization (ISO) took place at SMET last February 13, aiming to inform cadets the institution’s international accreditation amid shipping companies eyeing on SMET as prospect source of cadet scholars.
Mr. Manuel Hassan Borinaga, an English instructor of the said school, took charge of the talk and gave a general working definition of ISO – an international organization that comprises international standards for different fields and industries like education, technology healthcare, food safety and agriculture.
As for SMET categorized under education, it was granted the ISO certification, specifically ISO 9001.2015, which is focused on international standard requirements in Quality Management System (QMS).
This demand from ISO stretches from the facilities and equipment, educational curriculum, instructor competency and all management schemes of the institution.
Accordingly, “ISO 9001:2015 specifies requirements for a Quality Management System (QMS) when an organization needs to demonstrate its ability to consistently provide products and services that meet customer and applicable statutory and regulatory requirements, an enhance customer satisfaction through the effective application of the system.
All the requirements of ISO 9001:2015 are generic and are intended to be applicable to any organization, regardless of its type or size, or the products and services it provides.”
