We saw a woodlouse a.k.a butchy boy in the farm. A female woodlouse lays 24 eggs in a brood pouch with her. a woodlouse is a herbivore a.k.a vegetarian.

We researched on some insects that we got most interested in and my one was an Earthworm. We did a research of a life cycle on the interest.

Life cycle: Earth Worm

An earthworm’s baby are held protectively in a cocoon, a baby earthworm is called a ‘hatchling’. The hatchling emerges into the soil, where they meet relatives such as ‘mature worms’.

A worm’s life cycle goes like this. After worms mate, their fertilised eggs are put in a protected cocoon. The baby worms (hatchlings) break and make a hole in the soil, where they grow into juvenile mature worms. -Oscar

A Millipede life cycle work like this, an egg turns to a pupa, pupa turns to a Larva, Larva turns to a Adult. Millipedes live 1 to 10 years well it depends on the species.

September 9th - Planting potatoes, feeding worms and digging and planting sunflowers.

Today we planted Nicola potatoes. As they grow taller and taller in the pot we will add more soil - eventually we should have multi-storey potato plants.

Our new rain ponchos arrived so we were able to keep working in the light rain - and looking very stylish!

Today we learnt about potatoes. Potato's have 'eyes' and when you plant them the eyes grow potatoes - they can re-grow from tiny pieces when they are left behind after harvest. We put them in a pot so they won't take over the garden.

FOOD FOR THE WORMS Today we got to feed the worms in the compost bin. When we were looking through the food for any kind of food that is not meant to be in the compost bin, we saw cheese, crackers and sandwiches with ham. We took them out and put them in the bin.

Things that can go in the worm farm:

Apple cores, banana peels ,lettuse, carrots, pear cores, cauliflower, tomatoes, potatoes, mint leaves and other raw fruits and vegetables.
