Week of August 24: This week we will read Counting Ovejas by Sarah Weeks, illustrated by Caldecott medalist David Díaz. It is a story about counting sheep at bedtime, but these are not just any sheep. There are white sheep, and then there are blue sheep, purple sheep, pink sheep and green sheep. We’ll also sing traditional Latin American songs about sheep and other farm animals.

CURRENT THEME:
In our preschool, primary and third grade classes we will learn all about the farm, la granja. We’ll count ovejas, sing about pollitos, and hear stories about vacas jumping over the luna. In preschool and kindergarten we’ll focus on basic vocabulary, in first grade we’ll learn the alphabet and sounds of letters in Spanish, in second grade we’ll work on reading syllables and short words, and in third grade we’ll write and illustrate a book about the farm. It will be a semester full of farm-fresh fun… in Spanish!
