¡Bienvenidos! Welcome! Below are summaries of what we will be learning this year in eighth grade Spanish class. We will also have a World Language class to continue to explore some of the other languages that are taught in local high schools.

Señora Olea
Eighth grade Spanish sets a foundation for broadening students' vocabulary, reading skills and conversational skills. By the end of the year, students will be able to speak, read and write in in the present, past and future. For students continuing to study Spanish, it is the final step in getting ready for Spanish II in high school.
8th grade topics and activities:
*Culture: History and contemporary culture of Ecuador and the Dominican Republic.
*Vocabulary: Describing a house, celebrations, shopping and restaurants
*Grammar: Present tense of irregular and regular verbs, commands, ser vs. estar, future with verb ir, preterite
*Videos: Native speaker videos, stories, interviews, and pop music
*Projects: Writing projects related to the chapter vocabulary, including plays
*Field Trip: A language and cultural opportunity to visit use Spanish in a real-world setting to order at a restaurant and do shopping in Spanish.
*World Languages: An exploratory introduction into the other languages that are taught at the local high schools: French, German, and Latin.
