It has been a while since the last issue of ZAI Update, so here is the status of our Association. To date, the Zambales Association Incorporated is doing very well.
For starters, let me go back and talk about our August 04, 2019 family picnic. We can tell many of you remember it to be a Sunday and came to have fun at the Bayville City Park in Virginia Beach. We witnessed children at play, parents laughing for a change, and might have succeeded in making those pesky wrinkles disappear quite a bit. Even the grandparents tried very hard to do line dancing. Those watching were made a little apprehensive … afraid the seniors might pull unused muscles in their forced dance executions. So far, no news of hospital trips was announced. With that, it is safe to assume that the family picnic was a nice weekend full of fun and camaraderie.
The general membership was notified about this meeting via social media. We can also note the untiring efforts of our secretaries in notifying members to attend by phone or word of mouth. Many attended and the bibingka baked by Edith Alvior was delicious. Some of you who were nursing an illness and was watching football at home missed the bibingka. Too bad! Mike ate your share. haha!
· The president, Joe Alvior welcomes everyone and asks the vice president, Pinah Cecil to read a message from God, followed by the recording secretary, Mineheart Najera, who read the minutes of the last meeting. The treasurer, Larry Sahagun gave a healthy financial report. Later, a discussion came about the limit of funds allowed and how to obtain tax-exempt status for ZAI. This subject was concluded that ZAI is not a big organization to meet the requirements of a tax-exempt corporation.
In this meeting, it was also mentioned that the Business Manager, Aida Canonizado has submitted her resignation to devote most of her time in caring for her lovely grandchildren. In a case like this, the members went ahead into the succession process called for by the Constitution and Bylaws. This means the assistant business manager, Pepe Cabacoy automatically become the Business Manager. We congratulate Pepe Cabacoy for the new job.
· ZAI fundraising in the works: There are two initiatives in the process. One is the effort of Anne Cabacoy and Manang Fely Fontanares - they are taking orders for those wanting to buy fish (spots) by the pounds. Contact Anne Cabacoy @ 757-636-9331 for details. There is a sensitive issue discussed as well and that is the four missing iceboxes from last year's orders. If you have by chance holding those items for safekeeping, please return it to Manang Fely Fontanares. Better still, if you have unused iceboxes accumulating dust in your garage and taking up space, ZAI would appreciate your donation. These iceboxes are needed to haul in purchased fish from suppliers. This is a win-win situation for all of us. Thank you.
· The second initiative is a Casino Trip to Maryland Live on Oct. 19, 2019. The promoter of this event is Angie and Joe Aranas. The cost of the trip is 65 dollars. They can be reached @ 757-472-4403 for more details.
