A Philippine national hero, Dr. Jose Rizal, was a classic example of this situation. Many before him ventured out of the country for the same purpose.
Many Filipino people became part of the farming industry in America. They worked in the sugar and pineapple plantations in Hawaii, the farm and fruit communities of California, the tobacco farms of the Southern States, and the fishing industries of New England and Alaska.
Then, war broke out among the nations. There was World War I, World War II, the Korean War, and the Vietnam War. These series of events were instrumental in drawing the best crops of men and women out of the Philippines. They served in every capacity available in all corners of the world.

At the same time, they contribute substantially to maintain the high standard of living in their respective communities.
