On the morning of August 27, 2006, at around 06:07 EDT,[2] the Bombardier Canadair Regional Jet 100ER that was being used for the flight crashed while attempting to take off from Blue Grass Airport in Fayette County, Kentucky, 4 miles (6.4 km) west of the central business district of the City of Lexington.
The aircraft was assigned the airport's runway 22 for the takeoff, but used runway 26 instead. Runway 26 was too short for a safe takeoff, causing the aircraft to overrun the end of the runway before it could become airborne. It crashed just past the end of the runway, killing all 47 passengers and two of the three crew. The flight's first officer was the only survivor.[3][4]

Archie Loeb was the son of Russian immigrants, Hyman and Sarah Loeb, who settled in Columbia County. He was born April 14, 1921, and died Thursday, Aug. 6, 2015.
He served his country in World War II, then worked for a brief time in Chicago before moving to Watertown in the 1940s to “help” his brother, Bill, in the family business — recycling of scrap metal.
Their father started the family business in 1923 as a junk dealer in Columbus dealing in metals, rags, paper and rubber. Under the leadership of Bill and Archie the company evolved into one of the best, safest and most respected scrap metal processors in the country, obtaining ISO and OHSAS certifications and offering honorable employment to hundreds of employees throughout the years.
The business today operates yards in four cities in the Midwest.
Archie took Institute Scrap Iron and Steel seminars at Michigan State, Kellogg Institute and UW-Wisconsin NASMI courses. He also had a lot of hands-on learning.
He was an active member of Institute of Scrap Recyclers Industries Inc. He was a member of Kiwanis International for 59 years. He served on the board of directors of Opportunities Inc., Fort Atkinson. He was involved with the Junior Chamber of Commerce of Watertown for two decades.

On the morning of August 27, 2006, at around 06:07 EDT,[2] the Bombardier Canadair Regional Jet 100ER that was being used for the flight crashed while attempting to take off from Blue Grass Airport in Fayette County, Kentucky, 4 miles (6.4 km) west of the central business district of the City of Lexington.
The aircraft was assigned the airport's runway 22 for the takeoff, but used runway 26 instead. Runway 26 was too short for a safe takeoff, causing the aircraft to overrun the end of the runway before it could become airborne. It crashed just past the end of the runway, killing all 47 passengers and two of the three crew. The flight's first officer was the only survivor.[3][4]

Nathan Leopold was born on November 19, 1904 in Chicago, Illinois, to a wealthy immigrant family from Germany.[3] A child prodigy who claimed to have spoken his first words at the age of four months,[3] he reportedly scored an intelligence quotient of 210,[4] though test results from that era are not directly comparable to scores on modern IQ tests.[5] At the time of the murder he had already completed an undergraduate degree at the University of Chicago with Phi Beta Kappa honors, and planned to begin studies at Harvard Law School after a trip to Europe.[6]
He reportedly had studied 15 languages and spoke at least five fluently,[7] and had achieved a measure of national recognition as an ornithologist.[6]
He and several other ornithologists identified Kirtland's warbler, an endangered songbird that had not been observed in the Chicago area in over half a century.[8]
Richard Loeb
Richard Loeb was born on June 11, 1905 in Chicago to the family of Anna Henrietta (née Bohnen) and Albert Henry Loeb, a wealthy lawyer and retired vice president of Sears, Roebuck & Company.[9] His father was Jewish and his mother was Catholic.[10]
Like Leopold, Loeb was exceptionally intelligent.
Though he skipped several grades in school, and became the University of Michigan's youngest graduate at age 17, he was described as "lazy", "unmotivated", and "obsessed with crime", and spent most of his time reading detective novels.[6]

Archie Loeb was the son of Russian immigrants, Hyman and Sarah Loeb, who settled in Columbia County. He was born April 14, 1921, and died Thursday, Aug. 6, 2015.
He served his country in World War II, then worked for a brief time in Chicago before moving to Watertown in the 1940s to “help” his brother, Bill, in the family business — recycling of scrap metal.
Their father started the family business in 1923 as a junk dealer in Columbus dealing in metals, rags, paper and rubber. Under the leadership of Bill and Archie the company evolved into one of the best, safest and most respected scrap metal processors in the country, obtaining ISO and OHSAS certifications and offering honorable employment to hundreds of employees throughout the years.
The business today operates yards in four cities in the Midwest.
Archie took Institute Scrap Iron and Steel seminars at Michigan State, Kellogg Institute and UW-Wisconsin NASMI courses. He also had a lot of hands-on learning.
He was an active member of Institute of Scrap Recyclers Industries Inc. He was a member of Kiwanis International for 59 years. He served on the board of directors of Opportunities Inc., Fort Atkinson. He was involved with the Junior Chamber of Commerce of Watertown for two decades.
