FAQ

HOW MANY PROGRAMS CAN YOU DO PER DAY?

There are up to 4 programs (45 minutes each) for each full-day. Schools may share this day and split the fees accordingly. Any extra programs will be an additional $250 each.

IS THERE A LIMIT ON NUMBER OF STUDENTS OR GRADES PER SESSION?

With most options, there is no limit on number of students or grade levels per session. There may be some pricing options that limit the numbers, for a lower rate, to help schools out with certain budget needs.

WHAT MAKES YOU UNIQUE FROM OTHER AUTHORS?

I believe that inspiring kids first and foremost can help bring out the best in them. That's how it happened with me when my 2nd grade teacher introduced me to the love of children's books. Also, in 7th grade, my art teacher showed me how art can be a wonderful direction for me.

I make kids laugh and get excited about reading, writing & art. Also, my personal story can inspire them to believe that there's nothing they cannot do.

DO YOU PRESENT TO MIDDLE SCHOOLS OR HIGH SCHOOLS?

Yes, in fact I used to be a teacher and taught 3rd, 7th, 8th grades... plus all of the high school grades. I adapt my voice, tone and attitude to best appropriately connect to the kids at their age group.

I have been told by teachers how amazed they are that I can get the older students to have a great time, while also keeping the Pre-K students' attention for a full 45 minutes.

HOW MUCH PREP WORK IS THERE FOR US?

I have a simple checklist to follow, sample order forms already made up, PLUS I personally bring the bulk of my titles to the school and back. This way, there's no worries about ordering, losing or returning books.

I know schools and librarians are busy so I try my best to make the process as easy as possible.

ARE THERE WAYS TO WORK WITH SCHOOLS WITH BUDGET CUTS?

I design plans and options to help schools in need. I have special rates for groups and with book sale options. For Title 1 schools, I can do a "Priceline" concept (if requested) where the schools name their price and I'll try to come up with a plan to meet their needs.

WHAT ARE YOUR TRAVEL EXPENSES?

If you are within the Dallas/Fort Worth area, there are no travel expenses. Otherwise, if driving, there is the standard 57.5 cents per mile (subject to change), which is split among all the schools within that week's trip. If flying, there is the airline ticket, rental car and gas.

Lodging should be arranged by the schools. If not, I can arrange it and be reimbursed. My standard meal allowance is $20 per day. Since schools usually provide lunch, that should cover breakfast and dinner. For Title 1 schools & special circumstances, some of these expenses can be waived upon request.
