Thimbles
Have you ever wondered why there are so many thimbles around on farmland? Did the women spend all the time sewing and darning? Women and children used thimbles to protect their fingers from cuts from the crops.
That’s why there are so many different size thimbles. Cheaper then gloves and longer lasting. made from copper and Silver. Someone told me that he had seen a gold thimble come up on a dig he was on I've only found copper and silver thimbles, but I know the gold ones are out there just waiting for me. Big smile
This one has the words
foroel men
I think it could be Dutch as most thimbles were made in Germany or Holland
The one on the left is a Beehive thimble
dated to around the 15c
This is another Beehive thimble
dates around the 1350 to 14c
The thimble on the right has a small diameter of only
3/8 of an inch,
I believe this has to be a small child's thimble.
I think this one is 19c

This lead strapend was found on a Roman - Saxon site. It has a nice design but it’s difficult for me to date. I like to think it’s Roman
