A selection of Military buttons we have found.
Military Buttons turn up everywhere from farmland to beaches
One field we were on last year had nothing but buttons.
When you first get a hit you think great a Army button but
after twenty or so you start to wonder if its not time to move fields.

If you can identify any of these buttons please feel free



Royal Volunteer button pre 1808
Monogram letters RHG under crown
Georgian, probably Napoleonic.

Button 1 R V B
1st Royal Veterans Battalion.
The 1st Royal Veteran Battalion served in Portsmouth, Gibraltar, Holland, Landguard Fort, and Harwich, where they were disbanded in 1814. Reformed the following year in Plymouth, they were disbanded in 1816 at Plymouth.



A pre 1808 Royal Wiltshire Yeomanry button.
The make and crown are Georgian, probably Napoleonic.

Corps of Commission, with the Motto: "VIRTUTE ET INDUSTRIA" - England.Corps of Commissariats or Commissioners was an employment agency for respectable ex-servicemen, in positions as doorman, chauffeur, hotel receptionist, elevator attendant, etc.


General Service button of 1901 to circa 1953


Victorian Royal Scots Guards button.

The Buckingham Rifle Volunteers.
Existed until 1908, then became part of the main regiment as the Buckinghamshire Battalion



Top left - a livery button,

Top right - Scots Guards.

Bottpm left - Royal Army Pay Corps,

Bottom right Governmental livery or a general issue button
for a non military uniform maybe Staff
to Queen Elizabeth, the Queen Mother.
