Spectacle buckles
14th century through to the 18th century. These double looped buckles Are so-called because their shape resembles a pair of spectacles. The small one is an early type as it is very plain and crudely cast.

This one is broken in half and also crudely cast so I think it could be 16th 17th century. As the style evolved the points of the buckles became more decorative.

It’s a shame that this buckle is broken it has such a nice design
after a couple of hundred years in the fields it always surprises me when you get a complete one.
