Britain's Secret War Babies

John Stockley has lived in Weymouth all his life and is well-known around the town.  But recently his life took a new turn when he appeared on a Channel 4 programme called Britain’s Secret War Babies.  John was one of many babies born at the end of the Second World War who never knew their fathers who were African American GI’s.   In the programme, Channel 4 traced his father’s family to San Diego and with Gill his wife (and WeyBay WI member) he went over and met his brother and niece and visited his father’s burial grave.   At the February, meeting John spoke about how his life has been changed since the programme.  He has discovered several other brothers and sisters and plans future visits both here and in the States.  From being an only child for all his life, he now discovers that he is part of a huge family.  What an interesting history and what a lovely man. 

The meeting raised £135 for the Turkey and Syria disaster.  Thank you for all your donations.
