The Yetties and Bonny Sartin

Most of the members of WeyBay, certainly those who have a local background, will have heard of The Yetties, but I don’t think that they will have realised quite how successful or how prolific the group were.  Bonny Sartin joined the May meeting and gave a lively talk about his life as a member of the three-man group including entertaining with some songs. He explained “The talks are a way of staying in touch and I meet some incredible people.” Since turning professional in 1967, their music took them from Dorset all over the UK, appearing extensively in Europe and many countries, including Thailand, Nepal, Sri Lanka, Malaysia, Hong Kong, Singapore, Pakistan, Sudan, India, Bangladesh, the Maldives, the Philippines, Ethiopia and Canada.  What stories he had to tell!  When the BBC wanted to get in touch, they phoned the Yetminster phone box.  The vicar, a Reverend Widecombe, who was passing, answered the phone, passed on the message to the local pub landlord, who passed it on to The Yetties when they next called in for a pint.  It was a wonderful glimpse of bygone days.   But Bonny Sartin continues to be an inspiration today and his lively talk was very much enjoyed by the members.
