Melrose

This is the official state apple of Ohio, developed at the Ohio Agricultural Experiment Station in Wooster in 1944. It is a large, flattened fruit, with a yellowish-green skin, flushed and streaked dark red with russet spots. It has a firm, coarse texture, with a juicy, creamy white flesh. It resembles Jonathan in color and shape, but is larger in size.


Flavor: Tart-sweet

Uses: Fresh eating, juice/cider, sauce, baking (stays in slices)
