Crimson Crisp

This apple was developed in 1971 at Rutgers Fruit Research and Development Center in Cream Ridge, New Jersey. It was the result of a joint breeding program by Illinois, Indiana, and New Jersey, and was released for planting in 2005. It's ancestry includes Crandal, Rome, Golden Delicious, Jonathan, Edgewood, and Melba, to name only a few. It is medium-sized, firm, and has a deep red-purple color with crispy yellow flesh.


Flavor: Sweet-tart

Uses: Fresh eating, juice/cider, sauce, baking (cooks down)
