"Creating a culture of caring through mentoring and leadership"
What is the Westmount Wolf Pack?
Each year our grade 9 students / pups are assigned to a Westmount Wolfpack. This past year due to the pandemic the Wolfpacks were virtual. Next year, we are waiting for more information in order to determine if our Wolfpacks will again be virtual or go back to face-to-face. Stay tuned for updates.
The Westmount WolfPack is a group of hand-picked, trained, and dedicated senior students who are committed to the successful transition of our ninth graders. Each Pack Leader is a mentor and a friend to a group of grade 9 students.
The Westmount WolfPack is an effective toll used to ensure the success of Westmount's elementary to secondary transition plan.
The WolfPack is inspired by our school mascot, the Wolf. Like wolves in the wild, the WolfPack stick together as a group and supports each other through the good and the bad. Pack Leaders meet their pups on grade 9 day. The true connection and bonding happens at HOWL (Hanging Our With your Leader) Day each September. Throughout the year, Pack Leaders check-in with their pups and offer guidance and ongoing support.
Each Pack Leader is assigned a group of 8 to 14 grade nine students. The Pack Leader's role is to "be an friend and ally" to their grade 9 pups for the duration of the entire year. Pack Leaders will be assigned a locker with their their grade nine pups and have the opportunity to mentor them through homeroom classes, field trips and other school events.
Senior students who decide to commit to the challenge of becoming a Pack Leader will benefit from: receiving community involvement hours for their time, letters of reference/recommendation if required, a certification of accomplishment, and maybe more. More importantly, Wolf Pack Leader are offered the opportunity to authentically develop, grow and practice their leadership skills. Pack Leaders grow to understand how Leadership really is "serving" others.
The Pack Leader Selection Process!
Each year, grade 11 teachers are asked to recommend students who have demonstrated leadership and exceptional character. These students are then invited to apply for a Wolf Pack Leader position. We normally get over 70 applicants for about 20 Pack Leader positions. The competition is high so we look for well written and organized applications with insightful answers.
