How to drop a course:
Regular Drop: 4 courses to 3 courses
Grade 11 and 12 students may drop from 4 to 3 courses (Adaptive and Virtual Westmount Students)at anytime. Scroll to the bottom of this webpage and download the "Drop a Course" form. Complete the form. Scan it or take a picture of the form and e-mail it to your Alpha Counsellor. Put "Course Drop Form" in the subject line. You will get a follow-up message IF your request CANNOT be completed
Part-time Status Drop: 3 courses to 2 courses
Students may drop from 3 to 2 (Adaptive and Virtual Westmount Students) courses beginning Wednesday, April 7. Students are NOT permitted to drop to only 1 course. Here is how:
1. Email Ms. Pearlstein at cindy.pearlstein@yrdsb.ca to request a 2-page Part-time Status Application Form
2. Ms. Pearlstein will send you two documents: a copy of your credit counselling summary AND a blank Part-time Status Application Form.
3. Carefully, review you credit counselling summary to confirm that you CAN drop a course. Scroll to the bottom of this webpage to download "How to Read your Credit Summary" if required.
4. Complete the Part-time Status Application Form and return it to Ms. Pearlstein. You DO NOT need to return your credit counselling summary, keep it for your records.
5. Once received, your application will be sent to Administration for consideration. Your application will be include your credit counselling and attendance summary.
6. You will get a confirmation email from Ms. Pearlstein once your application has been accepted and the course dropped. You may also get a message if there is an issue with your application and your course cannot be dropped.
Please note the following:
Grade 9 and 10 students are not permitted to drop any courses from their timetable at any time during the year.
Grade 11 students will be permitted a spare if they will finish their grade 11 year with 23 credits.
Grade 12 students may apply for part-time status during the 5 days AFTER mid-semester report card distribution. Not any sooner.
What is Full Disclosure?
All Grade 11 and 12 students who withdraw from a course within five instructional days following the issue of the first provincial report card will not have the withdrawn course recorded on their Ontario Student Transcript (OST). For those students who choose to withdraw from a course after five instructional days following the issue of the first provincial report card, the withdrawal is recorded on the OST with a “W”. The percentage grade received by the student at the time of withdrawal will also be recorded. Students are to follow the Request to Drop a Course procedure for Full Disclosure. Please note that the course and a mark may appear on a midterm report card but will not appear on a final transcript if dropped by the Full Disclosure Date.
