Attendance Policy

Attendance policy

Skiing requires a significant level of physical conditioning, technical training, and practice.

Good attendance at practice and competitions is essential to being a team member in good standing and seeing growth as an individual athlete. It is the objective to see achievement on the individual level and the collective level. Coming to practice and competitions consistently is a requirement for shared and individual growth and achievement.

Being on a team means shared goals, shared effort, shared sacrifice, for shared achievement. Your team members will expect you to pull your weight. If you sign up for this team you are agreeing to do your fair share to help the team reach it’s goals. Your teammates and your coaches will hold you to your promise.

The Basics

1. All skiers are expected to attend all practices. If you need to miss, for whatever reason, then you simply need to let your coach know that you will not be there 24 hour prior to the absence.

2. We practice rain or shine, the only things that will keep us off the snow is extreme cold. If we need to cancel due to some unforeseen event we will let you know at the usual start time of practice. We will use TeamSnap to communicate changes to the practice schedule. Not attending due to a rumor is not acceptable.

3. Practice and Race Schedules are posted in advance, so plan accordingly. It is expected that skiers are fully committed to the team and will make every effort to schedule other activities around practices & races. Emergency situations are generally unavoidable, so we will work with those as they come up. However, activities/appointments that you have control over scheduling should be arranged so they do not interfere with practices or races.

What To Do If You Will Be Absent

In the event you will not be at practice, your coach is to be notified via email as soon as possible. Unless it is an emergency situation, the email must be sent at least 24 hours in advance. In the event of an emergency, please make sure to follow up with an email to your coach as soon as possible as well.

Absence Limits

If you are absent frequently your JV or Varsity team spot may be given to another skier with better attendance and you may be prevented from attending the annual ski trip.

The student athlete accepts full responsibility for managing their time and school work to enable them to fulfill their commitment to their teammates.

Coaches will talk with the skiers with attendance troubles and will be in contact with parents to enlist their help.

Illnesses and injuries are special cases and do not automatically count toward the absence threshold. Communicate with your coach as to the nature of your injury or illness. Not only could it affect attendance but the coaches will want to know so the illness or injury doesn't get worse.

The team has incentives at the core of its attendance policy.

Varsity Team positions and Junior Varsity Team positions will require good attendance.

The Varsity and JV spots will be given to students with excellent attendance and skiing performance.

If you have an unexcused absence in the preceding week you may not be given a spot on those rosters the following week at the discretion of the coaches.

You may not be eligible for the traveling trip if your attendance is poor.

All disciplinary action associated with attendance is the responsibility of the Head Coach.
