Phase II Report

The Phase II final report, Waikiki Pre-Disaster Recovery Planning Project:

Lessons from Puerto Rico, Recovery Operations, and Small Business Resilience

has been completed and is available for download here.

Phase II includes the following elements:

· Lessons from the 2017 Hurricane Season – Puerto Rico. This element entailed research and identification of lessons learned from the 2017 hurricane season. Because of the similarities with Oahu, research focused on Hurricane Maria and Puerto Rico to draw lessons for other island communities and tourist destinations, such as Waikiki.

· Recovery Operations Mapping. Operations mapping included identification of relevant Waikiki stakeholders, City partners and roles and responsibilities associated with desired recovery outcomes. This effort builds on the meetings and workshops conducted in Phase I of the Project.

· Development and Delivery of Small Business Training. A major component of the NDPTC is the development of training courses to increase the capabilities of local organizations to respond to and recover from disasters. As part of Phase II, NDPTC developed and delivered a pilot training course on small business continuity and disaster recovery for Waikiki.

This report summarizes the findings and accomplishments of each of the elements above. It is hoped that the outcomes of Phase II will continue to foster interest and momentum for recovery planning in Waikiki.
