The effective inclusion of students with special learning needs in education is dependent on sufficient differentiation within teaching practices. Teaching practices need to be reconstructed to include differentiation that match individual learning characteristics of the students. During my practicum, I differentiated curriculum content, teaching approaches, and assessment methods for my students on Individual Learning Plans. This helped to support their participation and learning within the classroom.
I made a list of modifications I had made for my students on Individual Learning Plans. This list helps me keep track of strategies that I have implemented within the classroom and to identify areas for improvement. Through these strategies, I was able to increase student engagement and support their learning in the classroom.
The document on the left is an example of an adjusted assessment task I created for my Year 8 Science Class. Students were meant to create a board games based on a body system. TO take the stress out of choosing a body system, I allocated one for them. I reduced the number of questions that needed to be included. I still included challenging learning goals for each of my students to achieve that matched their level of ability.
