Hubert Veit

Hubert Veit was born on 4.8.1905 in Freiburg, the youngest son of Julius and Katharina Veit. He left school at 16 and started an apprenticeship as a mechanic. He studied engineering at technical school in Mannheim but did not qualify. For a short period in 1931/32 he had his own radio business in his parents’ home but the boycott of Jewish businesses in 1933 put an end to this.

He emigrated to Palestine in 1933 and worked at a Kibbutz. Between 1940 and 1945 he was a soldier in the English armed forces. He married Margot in 1948. After the war he worked as a technician for a power company in Haifa until his retirement in 1967. Hubert returned briefly for a visit to the altitude of the Feldberg in 1956 in an attempt to alleviate his persistent asthma.
