After our second PQP meeting (unfortunately still through Skype, right before professor Carrera flew back), we have a much clearer view on what our goals for the project are. Talking to Professor Carrera, we're moving away from simply "Depopulation in Venice", and more towards how vacation rentals specifically are affecting local Venetians. It was pointed out that we need to tread carefully and not jump to any conclusions without credible sources, since this is currently a very hot topic among citizens of Venice.
We are currently working on our introduction, bouncing ideas off of each other and figuring out what works for all four of us. As we complete things they will be available in the Files section of the site, reachable through the links on the left. Also, work on the deliverables has begun, and they will also eventually be reachable through those same link.
Research efforts are at an all-time high, and we are all actively combing through anything we can get our hands on. WPI Library, online Italian archive, and many other sites have a lot of great information, as long as we can find it among all the text. One particularly striking article is The Death of Venice, a news article about some of the serious problems facing Venice today, including the increasing difficulty of affordable housing. - Steven
