Our team has spent this week doing background research and drafting our introduction and background chapters. We started the week with a visit to our research librarian, Laura Hanlan. She was very helpful in our search for good resources and helped us add many useful resources to our Refworks account. We found some really good sources including Coastal wetlands at risk: learning from Venice and New Orleans, which highlights the problems cause by human interference in coastal regions, especially in Venice and New Orleans. Many engineering projects in the Venice lagoon have contributed to the reduction of salt marshes over time, as shown in the figure below.
We’ve also spent a lot of time this week working on the draft of our introduction. After reviewing old IQPs, the team has a much better idea of what a good introduction is comprised of. We used our new understanding to edit our previous draft of the introduction and to continue adding to it. Next up is drafting our background chapter and our methodology chapter!
