The Canal Hydrodynamics team for Venice IQP 2012 assembled for the first time on Thursday, August 23rd. We are all starting off very excited about our project and ready to work on the preparation stage together! In our first PQP meeting the next day, Professor Carrera and Professor Zeugner gave us a lot of information about the overarching objectives of the project, as well as helpful nuggets of their own experience and knowledge of canal hydrodynamics in Venice. We determined that our most important deliverables will be a method for collecting hydrodynamic data in multiple canal locations simultaneously, and updating hydrodynamic measurements to address residents’ concerns of changing current behavior in the canals.
This past week, we have been thinking through the objectives of the project and beginning research that will be relevant to planning out and achieving our goals. We have also begun brainstorming preliminary ideas for the design of a measuring device that we hope to design and prototype at WPI by the end of the term. The project is promising to be challenging but also extremely interesting! Explore our website to see what we have been up to and follow our weekly blog about our progress on the project!
