Our project is officially off and running with our team collecting data, analyzing it and determining the water levels of the canals and their respective water velocities. However, what is this information for? What is the value if we are not doing anything with it?
One of the most important aspect of the project is going to be determining if any change has occurred in the hydrodynamic behavior of the canals. We are accomplishing this task by the use of the ISMAR models, which with the right inputs, can model conditions in the canals. These models will be run with past information and current information in order to accurately model the conditions respectively. After the models are ran, our team will be able to analyze them and conclude if and what changes had occurred.
This is where the data we have worked so hard to collect will come into play. The models, although proven accurate in the past, with every change to them they must be re-verified. The models will be run on the days we collected data in the field and if the models match the data then we know the models are correctly producing the data. If this happens we will be able to use the new and the old models to determine change. If the models are proven to be wrong, more data must be collected and the models must be reworked in order to determine change.
