My family roots are situated between Venus and Mars, Kansas City, Kansas and South Philadelphia, Pennsylvania, where the intersection of Black and White dimensions played out historically and personally. My parents defied the societal norms of their times in 1948 when segregation was active in the cultural context of America. I just discovered a documentary about Richard and Mildred Loving who were arrested in Virginia in 1958 for their interracial marriage. Their Loving v. Virgina case resulted in a Supreme Court decision that overturned the ban on interracial marriage in 1967. The Loving's story reminds me of my own parent's love story.
The two stories, For the Love of Baseball and Growing Wishes, tries to capture the power of love in the Vitali Family tradition!Â
May I continue to carry it on!
