I’m Ryan and I’ve worked for Kent Police for over 20 years, as a Detention Officer. I started out at Maidstone Custody Suite and was one of the first Detention Officers to pilot the “SDO – Senior Detention Officer” programme, which then transitioned to incorporate all Detention Officers to provide Designated power status. This role meant more responsibility for all, incorporating the care and welfare of the detainee with the forensic element of taking fingerprints, DNA and, more recently, the booking in process. I enjoy each element of my role, every day presents a new challenge and the opportunity to meet and work with new people.I became a UNISON Representative 2 years ago, because I wanted to be part of a team that ensures our members are represented and their views are heard. The training was comprehensive and gave me new skills and knowledge which I can pass on to our members.
I am married, with three sons who are heavily into sports, particularly rugby. I travel the country to watch my sons play in rugby games and am often found at the side of the pitch cheering them on.
