I have worked within policing for 33 years, starting with West Midlands Police, where a spent 3 years as a Public Order Trainer and Force Control Room Operator. During my time with West Mids Police I was a member of Nalgo, a fore runner of Unison. I moved to Kent in 1990 and worked for 6 years at Ashford Police Station as a control room operator, before moving to Special Branch, where I took up a role as a Port Coordinator. I have watched SB morph in to Frontier Operations and now CT Border Policing and have changed roles a few times myself, ending up as Head of Border Support. Throughout this time I have seen the benefits of being a Unison member for myself and my colleagues and would recommend all staff to join, not only so that they are better protected and informed but also so that we have a stronger voice within the organisation.
