I have been a member of Kent Police since 1983 starting my career as a Administrator in the Central Process Unit and then Front Counter Assistant at Sittingbourne Police Station. I left Kent Police in 1988 to have my two daughters. I returned to Kent Police in 1998 again as a Front Counter Assistant at Sittingbourne Police Station (in fact Les Worthington and I went for the same position initially!). I then moved on to the role of Administrator for the Specialist Investigation Unit, assisting in an administrative role with child protection and domestic abuse cases from 2000 to the end of 2008. Following re-organisation of the Unit, I then worked as an Administrator in the Professional Standards Department in the Public Complaints Department at Force Headquarters from 2009 to February 2019.I was then successful in obtaining the Administrative role in Unison, which I must say is the best decision I have ever made. The Team I work with are very supportive and encouraging and I constantly see first hand the hard work that they all do in helping Unison members with their problems, and negotiating for members. I myself have had fantastic support from the Unison Office prior to me starting in the Unison Office and since. I really enjoy working in the Unison Office. I would definitely encourage all members of staff to join Unison, as you never know when you might need their support.
