2013 Chrysler 300C - sunroof (headliner) rattle fix

Home

I recently bought a brand new 2013 model Chrysler 300C. The car looks great, and is rich in innovative technology and features. Unfortunately I have experienced an annoying squeak and rattle from the sunroof when driving the car on imperfect roads. I did some Internet search and found this thread

discussing the issue. It appeared to be a common problem with this car. Chrysler US has issued a TSB and specified a 4.5 hour job with instructions on how to fix the problem. According to the thread above, some US dealers have applied the TSB fix on a number of cars. However, water leaks from the sunroof were reported afterwards.

This convinced me to try to solve the problem myself and I found a simple solution that takes a few minutes. Here are the instructions of how to do it:

1. Cut two square pads of Velcro as shown on Figure 1 (one of them is circled in red).

2. Vent (tilt) the car sunroof by pressing the Vent control button.

3. Pull down the horizontal plastic bar under the open sunroof area. Stick the two velcro pads over the original white pads (one of the pads circled in red on Figure 2).

Figure 3 shows a closer view of the black velcro pad stuck over the original white pad.

If the rattle is not completely fixed, stick a second set of pads over the first one.

Enjoy rattle free driving!
