Description:

Latin and Roman Studies

Formerly Latin for Beginners

This group commenced on 15th April 2014. Updated NOV.2019

This summer's highlight has been a very enjoyable visit to the Corinium Museum at Cirencester, which has a superb display of Roman Mosaics and artifacts, mostly excavated from local villas.

Since completing the 'Cambridge Latin Course', the group has been translating texts about the exploits of Hercules, The Argonauts and Ulysses, as well as the history of the early Roman kings.

As a welcome break from subjunctives and past participles we spend some time discussing all things classical, such as daily life and customs, good and bad emperors, art, coinage, poetry, linguistics, and recent archaeological finds.

We meet Tuesday mornings, fortnightly, at the Group Leader's home and would welcome new members.
