Lake Hartwell - General Information
Lake Hartwell is a man-made lake created by Hartwell Dam, which opened in 1962. It is one of the largest recreational lakes in the southeast. The lake bisects Interstate 85, making it easily accessible for visitors and residents of the area.
Lake Hartwell Waters & Use Controls
The U.S. Army Corps of Engineers (Savannah District) provides guidelines for general use of Hartwell Lake Public Lands including the types of private uses and activities that may be permitted, such as boat dockls, underbrushing, and the applicable rules and regualtions. Tugaloo Bay subdivision is located with Area 7 of the Lake Hartwell Shoreline Areas.
Citizen's Forum to Protect Lake Hartwell
Tugaloo Bay Property Owners Association is a member of the Lake Hartwell Association. This group exists to protect the quality and quantity of water resources in Lake Hartwell and its watershed. The group provides a forum for discussion and action on lake-related issues and strives to influence positive growth and development while preserving the quality of life for all lake users.
Hart County Botanical Garden Plant Sale
View the PFD file below for details of the upcoming annual plant sale at the Hart County Botanical Garden. The sale is Friday April 6 and Saturday April 7 (both days from 9 AM to 5 PM). It’s a great time to purchase plants and garden supplies at a reduced price and to support your local Botanical Garden. This organization does much to upkeep garden and planting areas within and around the Hartwell area to make our landscape appealing to residents and visitors.

Lake Hartwell recreation is vast and includes great fishing, boating, and relaxing.
Harbor Light Marina
Harbor Light Marina has two locations. One is directly across the street from the Tugaloo Bay clubhouse. The other is located a couple of miles from our subdivision. If you are looking for a day (or week) on the lake and don't own a boat, the marina has a wide variety of boat rentals available. If you are seeking a place to store your boat, slips are available to rent annually or quarterly. The marina also has a launch ramp available for your personal water craft for $5 per day (annual passes are available). Contact the marina for special discounts to Tugaloo Bay subdivision residents.
Tilly's Tiki Bar & Grill.
This new restaurant is located at the Harbor Light Marina. The Grand Opening is April 6, 2018, at 5 PM. Their Website is https://www.tillystikibarandgrill.com/. They will be open Thursday through Sunday.
Public Launch Ramps
Lake Hartwell offers many Public Launch Ramps within a few miles of the Tugaloo Bay subdivision.
Lake Levels Comprehensive Study
A public bi-state water caucus meeting was held on September 18, 2013, in Hartwell. The caucus is a greater effort to perform a full Comprehensive Study that will examine extensive interactions of water resources in our area. The meeting included members of the Georgia and South Carolina Savannah River Basin Caucuses, the Governors of South Carolina and Georgia, and the new head of the Corp of Engineers in the Savannah District.
