We are Troop 285
Each year, we organize 1 to 2 high-adventure campouts designed specifically for scouts who are seeking greater challenges and the opportunity to develop advanced outdoor skills. These excursions may include activities such as backpacking through rugged terrain, canoeing along remote waterways, or tackling high ropes courses, providing memorable experiences that test endurance, leadership, and teamwork.
In addition, our program offers 10 weekend campouts annually, each lasting two nights. These outings are accessible and enjoyable for all scouts, regardless of their level of experience. Whether a scout is new to outdoor activities or a seasoned camper, these weekends emphasize skill-building, camaraderie, and fun, making them ideal for personal growth and group bonding.
Throughout the year, scouts participate in multiple service projects that are thoughtfully designed to instill a deep appreciation for the value of citizenship and serving others. These initiatives range from placing flags on veterans graves, community clean-up efforts and trail maintenance to partnering with local food banks or organizing charity drives. By actively engaging in service, scouts witness firsthand the positive impact their contributions have on individuals and neighborhoods, fostering a sense of responsibility and empathy.
Working together to plan and execute these projects, scouts develop important life skills such as collaboration, problem-solving, and perseverance. As they encounter the gratitude of those they help, scouts discover the profound satisfaction that comes from selflessly giving back. These experiences not only reinforce the scouting values of kindness and citizenship but also help shape scouts into compassionate and proactive members of their communities.
