Leadership Position Description

SENIOR PATROL LEADER

GENERAL INFORMATION Reports to: Scoutmaster

Description: Top junior leader of the troop.

Who reports to him: Asst. Senior Patrol Leader, Patrol Leaders

QUALIFICATIONS

Rank:

  • First class or higher

Experience:

    • Previous service as ASPL or PL

Attendance:

    • 75% over previous 6 months

Training:

    • Junior Leader Training

EXPECTATIONS

Attendance:

    • Attend 75% of the weekly meetings and 50% of the camp-outs or outings. This is 3 meetings per month and 3 camp-outs/outings in six months.

    • Be on time to troop meetings, events and activities.

Effort:

  • You are expected to give this job your best effort.

Behavior:

    • You should have fun in this job but also remember that you are an example to the rest of the scouts.

    • Act in accordance to the Scout Oath and Law.

    • Show Scout Spirit in everything you say and do.

Uniform:

    • Uniform must be worn correctly. This means that you will wear all of the parts of the Troop uniform. Shirt tail tucked in, with all required badges in their correct locations.

    • Set the example to other scouts for proper uniform appearance.

SPECIFIC LEADERSHIP RESPONSIBILITIES:

    • Run all troop meetings, events, activities and annual program planning conference OR make sure the Assistant Senior Patrol Leader can do your job if you are not available.

    • Name appointed boy leaders with the advice and consent of the Scoutmaster.

    • Assign duties and responsibilities to other junior leaders.

    • Schedule and run the monthly Troop Leaders’ Council Meeting (TLC).

    • Work with the Scoutmaster in training junior leaders.

    • Provide service and leadership in the Troop. Work with other Troop leaders to make the Troop run well. Keep adult leaders informed. Calls junior leaders when needed.

    • Meet occasionally with the ASPL and PLs to give them feedback on their performance.

    • You must call the Scoutmaster every Saturday to get specific information required for the next meeting and call ASPL and PLs by Sunday evening to give them specific information about the next meeting. Remind them to call the rest of Staff or their Patrols.

    • You must tell the Scoutmaster if you are not going to be at a meeting or outing. If you miss a meeting, call the Scoutmaster to find out what you missed.

Feedback:

    • The Scoutmaster will meet with you occasionally to give you feedback on your performance.

    • Credit for this role is based on your performance on a week to week basis. Scoutmaster decides on credit.
