For your Scout’s first camp-out, minimal camping equipment is needed. Troop 285 supplies most of the cooking and eating equipment. Each patrol usually plans its menu and buys the food. Therefore, below are the items that your Scout will need for his first camp-out. Bringing items in a duffel bag or small suitcase is preferable to investing in a pack frame at this time.
· Scout Uniform – worn to and from each campout
· Warm coat – it gets cold after sundown!
· Sweatshirt
· Stocking cap – worn at night – “If your feet are cold, put on a hat”.
· Rain suit or poncho – coated nylon is best, no vinyl
· Pants
· Shorts
· T Shirts
· Long-sleeved shirt
· Underwear
· Socks
· Handkerchiefs or tissue
· Belt
· Hat
· Sneakers or hiking boots
· Sleeping Bag – warm (rated around 0 degrees (F) and lightweight (less than 5 lbs. Invest now as this will keep your Scout warm and be used throughout his Scouting career.)
· Air mattress or foam pad – to conserve body heat from entering the ground.
· Small pillow & pillow case
· Folding chair or camp stool
· Water bottle
· Plastic mug or cup with your name on it.
· Toothbrush and toothpaste
· Washcloth and small towel
· Soap in a soap box
· Chapstick
· Sunscreen lotion
· Insect repellent
· Toilet paper – small roll in a Ziploc bag.
· Daypack – to hold rain gear and sack lunch – for trip to/from campout.
· Scout handbook
· 39 gallon trash bags (2 ea..) – works great for protecting equipment from rain; also as an emergency rain suit.
· Flashlight and/or head lamp and spare batteries
· camera – to take pictures for his Eagle book.
