Season Update

Post date: 20-May-2011 11:02:33

Our u14's are having a great season with 3 wins and a draw under their belt. They are through to the semi-final stage, which takes place Tuesday May 24th against Galbally. They have really stepped up to the task. The girls are now bringing to the field all the skills they have learned over the past two years and its really showing with the results they have been getting. Best of luck in the semi-final.

Our u12's have 5 rounds of the Go-Go non-competitive competition played against Mungret, Monaleen, Muroe-Boher, Cappamore and Na Piarsaigh. These have been very successful with 20 of the 24 strong panel turning up for matches. Two teams are put out at each meeting. The players are playing very well getting stronger all the time and having a great time. Results are not recorded but Treaty Gaels teams have been very competitive in all matches and pleased with the results. There is one more round to go against Ahane.

The u12's also took part in the first of the u12 Blitzes hosted by Ahane. They played 3 matches they drew 2 and lost to Murroe Boher by a point in the 3rd match. This event was well run in beautiful weather. Thanks to Ahane. There are 4 more blitzes in June for the team and we look forward to them.

Anne O'Toole and Niamh Tuite have been playing with the County under 14 squads. This training has been excellent and the girls playing skills are developing. It is great to see them playing in Limerick Jerseys. They took part in inter-county blitzes hosted by Clare, Tipperary and Limerick to date and will have the Cork blitz at the end of May. It is a lot of commitment but it pays off in the end.

Eva Brommell, Áine Higgins, Dervla Clarke, Jennifer Holmes, Hannah Brown, Mary O'Conor and Cathy O'Toole are involved in the City u12 development squad. They train on Sunday mornings with 25 other girls from the city clubs and have a guest coach week. It is an early start but a great experience for them all. The City squad will compete against the other county divisions in a blitz in June.

Congratulations to An Modh Scoil on their first two outings at 5th and 6th class camogie. They had great wins over Ballybrown NS and St Paul’s NS. Treaty Gaels have 8 players on the panel. Well done girls. Well done also to Áine from St Paul’s NS who had to face her club team-mates.

A recruitment drive was put in place for the month of May to attract young players from 6-10 years of age. It targeted the schools and GAA clubs (Ballinacurra, Old Christians, Claughan, St Patrick’s) in the Southside. Also Ger Downes Limerick's GAA development officer promoted the club during his activities in the city. This was followed by 2 open nights run by Ger and Katriona Maher. This has been very successful and there are now 25 players in this category. A programme is now running for this group under the care of Katriona., Mary Browne and Cecelia Darcy and they are working towards the upcoming County u10 Blitz.

We are still looking for more girls to join from 6 to 14 years of age. Come down and talk to us at 7pm Monday evenings in Ballinacurra Pitch.
