The Transportation Research Board (TRB) provides innovative, research-based solutions to improve transportation. Part of the National Academies of Sciences, Engineering, and Medicine, TRB is a non-profit organization that provides independent, objective, and interdisciplinary solutions. TRB manages transportation research by producing publications and online resources. It convenes experts that help to develop solutions to problems and issues facing transportation professionals. TRB also provides advice through its policy studies that tackle complex and often controversial issues of national significance.

New technologies have the potential to transform transportation as we know it. Public agencies are being challenged to facilitate technology deployment to meet public policy objectives. These objectives include improved safety, reduced congestion, enhanced sustainability and economic development. Research is needed to assist the public and private sectors in deploying these technologies in a manner and timeframe that that can maximize the probability of successfully meeting these policy objectives.

TRB’s Executive Committee has identified transformational technologies as a critical issue in transportation. See attached PDF file for more details.
