Dear Automated Vehicles Colleagues,

This posting begins a series of emails to highlight the 17 break-out sessions and Friday workshop for the 2015 Automated Vehicles Symposium.

Envisioning Automated Vehicles within the Built Environment: 2020, 2035, 2050" is a full-day workshop, Friday 24 July, 9:00am-4:00pm, designed to engage you in exploring how automated vehicles may impact the built environment.

This interactive workshop is modeled on an architectural design studio, or charrette. Using different alternate future scenarios, participants will work in small groups with three design sites (streets/roadway, neighborhood/district, and regional scales) described in words, images, maps and diagrams. Each group will use writing and visualization techniques to generate “after” scenarios that they will then use to assess the impact of automated mobility on the built environment.

The scenarios have been developed with input from city planning, infrastructure, architecture, car design, engineering, and software disciplines, with specified time-horizons and vehicles, and varying degrees of shared mobility, connected vehicle technology, and autonomous operation. Each team will present their outputs at the end of the workshop for discussion with the wider set of participants.

Proceedings from last year’s “built environment” workshop can be found here: http://www.its.ucdavis.edu/news-and-events/conferences-2/automated-vehicle/ )

This dynamic workshop is free of charge (lunch on your own) and all disciplines are encouraged to attend! Attendance is limited -- sign up through the following link: http://goo.gl/forms/DM1ghi7UOZMore detailed information will be sent to those who sign-up. Thank you,
