Specific goals that have been identified to focus the Committee’s planned activities, as follows:
Emphasize Climate Change: To recognize that the urgency of climate change and related risks to airports and aviation (including risks to airport sustainability) drive this category as a top priority of the Committee and all subcommittees, and to reflect that urgency in Committee strategies and actions.
Foster Research: To support and enhance the TRB’s role in fostering and contributing significantly to research, development, and the implementation of new technologies, application of research, and innovative practices dealing with aviation and environmental issues in the U.S. and internationally. Research should include actions the aviation community can take to address carbon emissions and reduce climate change-related risks.
Promote Collaboration: To create and promote intermodal and cross-aviation collaboration throughout the TRB community, addressing, identifying, and communicating common areas of concern and interest regarding environmental issues.
Recognize Environmentally Beneficial Practices: To support broad sustainability and other environmentally beneficial actions and ideas in equipment manufacturing and operation, as well as in airport development and operation, and to encourage objective research.
Identify Emerging Trends: To create a forum for identifying and addressing emerging trends developing in the aviation-environmental community.
Integrate Equity: To integrate equity into Committee and all subcommittee processes and practices, recognizing the effects of institutional racism (as well as discrimination based on gender, gender identity, age, people with disabilities, and other characteristics) and working to broaden and diversify input, communication, and relationships.
