RSAI Congress 2020
Special Session (SS14) on Regional Impact of High Speed Rail
The objective of this special session is to discuss and explore the regional impact of HSR with a focus on evaluating its broader socioeconomic impacts on regional growth and development.
Although priority will be given to the studies that focus on developing countries, experiences and analysis of the HSR systems in developed countries are also welcome. To facilitate a fruitful discussion, priority topics of this special session include, but are not limited to, the following aspects:
Impacts of HSR on regional economic growth (e.g. GDP, employment, wage, income, firm productivity, housing price, and tourism);
Impacts on land use — including sprawl, community development;
Impacts on modal competition and complementarity;
Impacts on travel behavior, and time use;
Impacts on social equity and quality of life;
Assessment of financial performance and sustainability of the systems;
Planning and policy analyses to support developing a resilient and sustainable HSR system; and
New approaches (e.g. new data and novel methods) for HSR project appraisals.
