Optional Post-Build Itinerary

In addition to the official itinerary we've worked out an itinerary for an optional, purely voluntary three-day post-build trip that would give everyone an opportunity to see more of the great country in and around Cape Town. Details are in the attachment here. The total cost is $855 per person, based on double occupancy, $1,000 for single occupancy.

A few things to note:

As part of the Habitat build (and included in the price of the Habitat trip) we will have already done a fair amount of looking around Cape Town itself, including a visit to Robben Island prison where Nelson Mandela was held.

This itinerary covers highlights that are within relatively short travel distance from Cape Town: Cape peninsula, the wine country, and a game reserve. We (Larry and Ann) have not been to the Aquila game reserve, and we suggest that you take a look at its website http://www.aquilasafari.com

and perhaps look through comments on Trip Advisor

http://www.tripadvisor.com/Attraction_Review-g312659-d654947-Reviews-Aquila_Private_Game_Reserve_Day_Trip_Safari-Cape_Town_Central_Western_Cape.html

The comments about Aquila are somewhat mixed. Many visitors love it, say it fulfilled all their expectations. But some who have been to bigger game parks found it disappointing. It's definitely smaller and more controlled (i.e., the lions have their own separate habitat, so they don't prey on the rest of the wildlife) than what you would see if you went to Kruger, South Africa's premier game park. But Kruger is on the other side of the country, a plane ride and then a long drive away -- and more expense, of course. Which is why we've opted for Aquila in this itinerary.

The three days covered are Sunday-Tuesday, July 19-21 (Tuesday night dinner and hotel are included). You would make reservations to return home Wednesday, July 22.

Please take a careful look through the attached details below and get back to us with any questions.

We are setting a tentative deadline for signing up of May 26 --the same day your full cost for Habitat is due -- but we may have to bring that forward depending on the tour organizer.

In our experience, there's nothing more fun at the end of a build than relaxing with volunteers and sharing a travel adventure.

Here are the tour details:
