We have had a number of black bears living in the neighborhood for years. Black bears are generally NOT very interested in people and will not bother you if you don't bother them.
Be extra cautious if you see cubs (baby bears). Mother bears are very protective.
Bears are always on the lookout for easy access to food. Please take the following steps so the bears don't make your property a regular stop:
Close your garbage bins with bungee cords or other locking mechanism.
Do not feed the birds in the summer! Bears love bird seed and will go to great lengths to get it and even climb right up onto a deck to get to a bird feeder! This isn't an issue in the colder weather when bears are not out and about.
If possible, please notify your immediate neighbors and/or post the info to the PLPOA Facebook page if possible if you see a bear in the area!

Notice - Another black bear has been sighted in Pawling Lake and has been overturning garbage cans and making a nuisance of himself. Please be sure to keep your garbage cans inside, or garbage bins tied closed as the bear is hungry. Also, please make sure that you keep an eye on your children and small pets. Safety is always a concern when bears wander into the neighborhood so please be vigilant.
