Hammerlock Voltas in R Shadow Position--Same Foot
If you have seen the movie "Dance With Me", the characters Julian Marshall and Ruby Sinclair, competing in the Semi-Finals of the World Professional Latin Championships, dance their Hammerlock Voltas in the middle of the samba dance semi-final heat. After my analysis on the entry to this advanced samba move, I am glad to tell you that I got this right on.
-Charles Joseph Smith
Start in Closed Facing Position, man facing wall (lady backing wall).
Notice the foot change for the man on steps 4 and 6.
1-3. Dance a Samba Whisk RLR (Lady LRL) 1a2
4-6. Man does a Kick Ball Change LLR while the Lady does 1a2
a Back Spot Volta RLR (outside UAT), and after the
turn, the man's R hand will bring in the lady's R
hand behind lady's middle back for hammerlock in R
Shadow Position
Now, the man and lady will dance on the same foot for
the voltas in 11-22, holding the hammerlock during the voltas,
and retaining R Shadow Position. The voltas will travel down
across the LOD, although they maintain the original alignments
at the start of the variation.
7. Both man and lady go to side on their LF a
8. Both man and lady cross RF over LF 1
9. Both man and lady go to side on their LF a
10. Both man and lady cross RF over LF 2
11-22. Repeat steps 7-10 three times a3a4a5a6a7a8
You can follow these ways:
1. Releasing the hammerlock, bring your RH on lady's RH so that lady's
RH is just above her shoulder, and do the Cruzados Locks in
R Shadow Position
2. Boto Fogos on Same Foot in Right Shadow Position (hence, a Left
Foot Variation for the Man), retaining hammerlock position
