D. Spectacular Highlight Positions--Follower's Side Split Drop
The precede to the Side Split Drop has a 2-beat preparation for most of the cymbal crashes you hear in most paso doble music, especially in "The Spanish Gypsy Dance."
Start in Tandem position, with Follower having LF and RF together. Leader has LH and RH on each of the follower's shoulders.
Leader
1. Lead follower to thrust on both feet (still together), with no foot 1
movement for the leader
2. Push follower's shoulders as much as possible so that she can go down 2
for the side split as the follower goes down on one's gluts to the ground
for the split drop
3. As the follower does the side split, bring your L arm curved up, and your R arm 3
curved in front of the chest
(Hold position as desired)
Follower
1. Twist both feet to the L (still together) 1
2. As you feel the leader pushing on your shoulders, begin to go down into a side 2
split by spreading your legs as your upper body goes down
3. Now into the side split position, bringing your hands to the sides. 3
(Hold position as desired)
Note: This highlight is useful at the end of a paso doble routine.
E. Spectacular Highlight Positions---Follower's Layover Pose With Arabesque
Leader
1-4. Step in place LF RF LF RF, leading follower to go around your 1 2 3 4
R side to your back in R-to-L Hold; on 4, catch follower's L hand
with your RH to end up in Leader's Tandem Position (as if you are
about to go into the Fregolina)
5. Now go forward on your LF and flex L knee, and spread lady's arms in 5
L-L and R-R hand hold so that the hands are just a little bit over your (hold 6 7 8)
head, so that the follower will put the head over the leader's head
(Note: Also lean your upper body forward at this point. Hold 4 beats.)
Follower
1-4. Walk around the leader RF LF RF LF (forward walks, with cross- 1 2 3 4
swivel action on each), to end up with your front facing follower's
back (in Tandem Position)
5. Now, with your RF free, raise R leg into an arabesque and flex L knee, 5
and let your upper body lean forward. (hold 6 7 8)
(Hold 4 beats.)
