The major components needed to marinize the Cummins are:-
In addition, the gearbox you choose to use will need an oil cooler but you will retain it from your previous motor along with the adaptor plate.
The Cummins B series has an internal oil cooler so no separate unit is needed for this. No charge air cooler (intercooler) is required on engines up to 230 HP.
Sometimes referred to as a mani-header. The unit required is a Bowman CM600. In order to generate the necessary clearance for the turbo charger above the flywheel house, a wedge needs to be fitted to the manifold casting. While we're welding bits onto the casting, the necessary bosses can be added to allow a stainless steel cover plate to be fitted over the exhaust stubs. This acts as a heat shield and hides the discolouration of the exhaust stubs cause by the temperature of the exhaust gasses. The Bowman CM600 is available from several suppliers but A.S.A.P. Supplies will hold stock for Fairey Owners' Club members.
The heat exchanger fits neatly below the exhaust manifold and requires a stainless steel mounting bracket to hold it in place. In testing, the Bowman C120 heat exchanger will provide cooling capacity for up to 230HP in UK Climates.
The raw water pump is specific to the Cummins B-Series as it is mounted on the front of the engine and gear driven. The Sherwood GC1 pump is often used, although expensive. An excellent alternative is the JMP JPR-C1025 pump and somewhat cheaper. This is available from stock from WaterMota Ltd in the UK.
Both of these pumps are 1 1/4" diameter and will serve for up to 220-2340HP in UK waters. For higher power ratings, the Sherwood GC5 may be used. This is a 1 1/2" pump but causes a slight foul on assembly which we are working to solve.
If your existing injection elbow is serviceable, then retain it along with your Holset H1C turbocharger for reuse. If your existing turbos are 3LD Holset or Schwitzer copies, then these are probably best discarded. Holset H1Cs are readily available and easily and cheaply serviced.
Welded stainless exhaust injection elbows to suite the H1C on either the Perkins T6.3554 or Cummins B-Series are available from Manuflex in Weston-Super-Mare. They come complete with heat shield blankets.
It's also worth availing your self of a T4 Turbo blanket which may be purchased via many eBay sellers.
Various stainless pipes are required to connect the cooling circuit and also the inlet tract. These are available through the Cummins project, or drawings may be obtained to allow your local fabricator to produce.
We try hard to stay clear of the Wicks Central Heating copper pipework as the copper quickly work hardens and cracks.
