Thanks to those who attended the annual meeting today. One of two guest speakers Katie Lighthall of Project Wildfire reminded us of the dangers of wildfire potential in our neighborhood. It was a good reminder to be cautious when doing any burning by calling the Redmond Burn info line at 504-5035 for daily updates and burn day information. A good rule of thumb is if you are going to burn, do it early in the day, and stop by noon, or sooner if the winds come up. Even though we have had some moisture recently, it is awfully dry already, with a few brush fires already started.
Maybe better than burning is to take advantage of Project Wildfire's FireFree events in May. View the Project Wildfire website for information on free fire fuels disposal dates and locations starting May 4th. Don't miss this opportunity to dispose of your brush and trimmings for free. Another key point of Katie's presentation was being prepared to go. We spend a lot of time planning and implementing our defensible space, but sometimes less time is spent on making an evacuation plan. Also on Project Wildfires website is preparedness information in case an evacuation is necessary. Another great piece of info brought to us is the availability of being able to now be on the 911 Reverse Dial program for cell phone users. Take the time to go to this link: Reverse Dial Registration and register your land line or cell phone to get emergency alerts that may affect the area which you live. Thank you Katie for the great presentation and reminder of being cautious this upcoming fire season.
Our other guest speaker today was Katie Hammer. Katie is the Executive Director of the Redmond Area Parks & Recreation District (RAPRD). RAPRD acquired ownership of the Tethrow Homesite located adjacent to our community in 2003. They now have a plan of improving the site to include many amenities and additions to the house and surrounding area. The eventual plan calls for the improvements to be available for interpretive visits as well as an educational facility available to groups who wish to rent it for groups up to 30 or 40. More recently they have repaired the well pumps and are fixing and adding to the irrigation system. Currently there is not a set time frame for completion of the project as the improvements are dependent upon public funding grants. Thank you Katie for the great info you presented today, and will look forward to any updates in the future.
Other items discussed at the meeting were the road improvements for fiscal year 2011-2012. This year we will be doing a 1" asphalt overlay starting at Coyner and Odin Falls, continuing on Coyner to Zamia, going to 61st Street, and a small section of 61st from Atkinson to Yucca. This will complete the second of three road sections slated for overlays.
No new board members were elected. The existing board members agreed to stay on for another year.
If you were at the meeting....... thank you for attending and giving your support. If you were not at the meeting, hopefully we will see you there next year.
