"EF" an abbreviation for Denmark - it stands for Erkin Ferkin in reference to the sound of the spoken Scandinavian language.
"M&F" stands for Mary and Fred the royal couple or prince and princess in waiting or whatever its a little bit of Ozzie disrespectful humor.
"Uncle Kevie" - Australian Prime Minister at the time Kevin Rudd
Greeting folks from the travellers in EF.
Whilst we do enjoy the pickled herring on toast for breakfast Debbie has made me be very adventurous and move on to Danish pasty. Yesterday we sampled two pastry delights - Deb had a lovely muesli slice and encouraged me to have a prune mash pastry. We expect to get a lot of milage out of these today.
So now we are out in the country having taken three trains from the capital yesterday and a good hike at the end we are now in residence at the Fredenborgdanhostel (hotel for za vondering peoples).
It is lovely back packer type place and is only one castle away from THE CASTLE where the wedding is to take place. Mary and Fred (M&F) will be here tomorrow and security is allready here - see attached photo.
Three trains to get to the country sounds a long way and in EF it is. Its all of about 50 kilometres but remember there is a lot of very flat land to cross.
Lucky for us we were no longer in residence (and before bloody M&F spotted us) and one of the new inlaws picked us up for a tour around the northern tip of the island.
We went to where the Danes have this bloody great old castle overlooking a very narrow stretch of water. Here they set up a big row of canons and they simpy held every passing ship to ransom (pay tax or we blow you out of the water).
This technique was in the historic phase between when they got sick rowing to get take away and invented "dial a tax". Very clever and inventive people and it was also at this time they changed their name from Vikings to Danes. It has struck us that Uncle Kevie back home may have studied their modus operandi.
So from there we went to THE CASTLE where the wedding is to be held and whilst we cound not get inside yet (security - bloody M&F) we did get to have cake and coffee in the outer court yard where they have a fantastic swimming pool. See attached photo - we understand that in days gone by people - particularly soldiers would die for a swim here.
We also discovered an very interesting fountain and important sculpture in the outer forecourt of THE CASTLE - see attached photo. The piece is called in Danish Zarevenceofzarollmop (translation - The Herring Gets Square).
Next event for the day was (remember sun does not go dowm here till 10pm so you get a lot done in a day) was to meet more of the inlaws for some wine tasting at the local bottle-o. See photo.
This was Debs favourite part of the day. They introduced us to a very interesting concept where you smell the wine a lot take a little taste and empty the rest into a big contained for later use. Debs medical training kicked in and she thought this practice less than hygenic and found a way of taking very big tastes and therefore not needing to contributing to the contained for after use.
From there we all went for a new type of Danish pastry which they call zapizza - had a lovely time where every one tried Debs new wine tasting technique and all went home very happy.
See yars all from the next place when we get internet access.

PS Mary and Fred say hi to all back home and a special hi to Jenny.

Hi Debbie & Terry,
It was good to receive your long epistle this morning--glad you are having such a good time with friends & relatives. I hope the weather over there was nice for the wedding as it is very cold & very wet here. I re-lit the fire just after lunch and it was soon nice and cosy. I hope you continue to have a great time.
Love from Dad.
